Dear Friends,
I just wanted to
drop a note to tell you that two of my bipartisan
proposals will be
heard in the
House Transportation Committee
today, Jan. 29, at 3:30 p.m. I plan on testifying for
both measures in House Hearing Room B in the John L.
O'Brien Building. Joining me in support is Clark County
Auditor, Greg Kimsey. To listen in, please visit this
TVW Web site.
Currently,
drivers in our state must purchase new license plates
from the Department of Licensing every seven years at
the cost of $24, regardless of the condition of the
plate. Further, if a driver wants to maintain the same
license plate number, he or she must pay an additional
$20 fee.
My proposals would eliminate both fees:
House Bill 1368 would eliminate the
mandatory seven-year license plate replacement
requirement and, instead, only require replacement upon
request of the vehicle owner or upon transfer of
ownership.
House Bill 1367 would eliminate the $20
retention fee for keeping the same plate number when
replacing a license plate.
These two common-sense
measures would eliminate unnecessary government
bureaucracy and lift a financial burden on people.

for these bills, click

If I can even be of
assistance, or if you'd ever like to share your views,
please respond to this e-mail or give me a call at (360)
786-7850.
Sincerely,
Jaime Herrera
State Representative 18th Legislative District
